UNFCCC organizes an informal virtual meeting on Oceans and Climate
Sustainable Development Goals
The COP 25 Presidency and the incoming COP 26 Presidency welcomed the publication of the Informal Summary Report, by the Chair of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), on the Ocean and Climate Change Dialogue to consider how to strengthen adaptation and mitigation action. The dialogue and its report are an important step forward in considering the ocean’s place in the UNFCCC.
The COP 25 Presidency and the incoming COP 26 Presidency invited Parties and non-Parties stakeholders to an informal consultation to exchange views on next steps following the informal summary report.
The meeting aimed to ensure that discussions are inclusive and representative of a wide range of views, particularly of those states and communities most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
The goal of the meeting was to have a space for reflection for States and Observers to express their ideas on how to move forward. For that purpose, an information note is provided with guiding questions to help generate a valuable dialogue.
The meeting took place on Tuesday 29 June 2021, from 16:00 tp 17:30 CEST.
