Climate Change Attribution and Vulnerability in Kenya

This research project is the first large-scale interdisciplinary study in Kenya that focuses on heat and compound events. In attempt to better understand the impact of climate change in the Global South, the project poses the research question of how can advances in climate sciences be combined with a human-centered approach to vulnerability to create climate-resilient societies. It will use multiple case studies across different rural and urban communities in Kenya and merge climate attribution science with socio-political understandings of vulnerability.

The project is funded by the DANIDA Fellowship Centre, and is implemented by lead institution University of Copenhagen (UCPH). Partner institutions include the University of Nairobi (UoN), the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD), the Danish Meteorological Institute, and the Kenya Red Cross Society.

The project began on 1 September 2023 and will end on 31 March 2028.
