World's first bio-compressed natural gas powered-vehicle

On 17 September 2024 at the University of West Indies Cave Hill campus, the university unveiled the world's first vehicle powered by renewable natural gas (RNG) from Sargassum seaweed, rum distillery wastewater and Blackbelly sheep manure. The project is the result of extensive research by scientists at the university, Rum and Sargassum Inc. and Supernova Lab of Future Barbados. The car belongs to the Carribean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) and is now used as a flagship vehicle to inspire innovations in transportation regionally and globally.
