Institutional Program UFMG Sustainability

UFMG Sustentável is the sustainability initiative of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), designed to integrate environmental responsibility into the university’s teaching, research, campus operations, and community engagement. The program is coordinated by a Permanent Commission and the Department of Environmental Management, ensuring that sustainability is embedded institutionally.
Its work spans key areas such as energy, water, waste management, sustainable practices, and education. Among its projects are:
-
proper disposal of medicines,
-
material sharing and reuse initiatives,
-
clothing exchange programs,
-
recycling partnerships with local organizations,
-
student-led entrepreneurship for sustainability, and
-
educational outreach on science and the environment.
Through these actions, UFMG Sustentável promotes a culture of sustainability, reduces the university’s ecological footprint, and strengthens collaboration between students, staff, and local communities. Find more information here.
