UNESCO Chair Lecture on World Teachers' Day 2026
The UNESCO Chair in Higher Education for Sustainable Development at Leuphana University Lüneburg is organising the special UNESCO Chair Lecture on the occasion of World Teachers' Day on Monday, 5 October 2026.
The 5th of October is commemorated internationally as World Teachers' Day to “celebrate how teachers are transforming education, to reflect on the support they need to fully deploy their talent and vocation, and to rethink the way ahead for the profession globally” (UNESCO, 2026). While teachers play a critical role in fostering sustainability, a significant gap remains in creating the adequate support structures and enabling conditions they need to thrive in this role. Taking a cue from the international theme of 2026 celebrations, the UNESCO Chair invites you to a dialogue between teachers and teacher educators. Together, they will explore the pivotal role of teachers and teacher training in shaping the global development agenda Beyond 2030.
