Vision
"We believe in the central importance of sustainability in our professional and personal lives. We also recognize that the word sustainability is burdened with a heavy freight of complex, sometimes confusing meanings that often make it a challenge to speak about or understand it clearly.
By extension, we believe that the language we use and the stories we tell to illustrate what a sustainable life might look like are essential to making sustainability accessible and meaningful to the individuals and communities from whom change must come."
Mission
"SFU will pursue ecological, social and economic sustainability through its programs and operations. Through teaching and learning, research and community engagement, SFU will seek and share solutions. In its own operations, it will develop and model best practices, from minimizing its ecological footprint, to maximizing its social health and economic strength."

Sustainability at SFU
Sustainability at SFU is an online hub linking you to all things “sustainability” at SFU. From here you should be able to find your way to lots of information in four key areas about activities and initiatives that, we believe, contribute to the creation of a sustainable culture:
- Campus & Facilities
- Students
- Teaching & Learning
- Research
The site is created and maintained by the staff of SFU’s Sustainability Office, which is responsible for coordinating and facilitating sustainability-related work and communications for Simon Fraser University. The purpose of the site is to:
- educate members of the community on sustainability issues;
- enable them to build a sustainable culture through developing knowledge and skills that support sustainability;
- connect broadly distributed and diverse efforts that support sustainability;
- report the results of SFU’s workin the service of accountability to our internal and external communities.
