Commitment programme to reduce students' carbon footprint
The Green Office of the University of Liège is developing a commitment programme to reduce the student carbon footprint.
The objective by 2030 is in line with the objective of the Paris Agreement: a 50% reduction of the individual footprint, for the whole student community.
This ambitious programme is based on 4 pillars:
- Awareness-raising to raise understanding of the challenges of sustainable development, the objectives of the 2030 Global Agenda and the components of our carbon footprint;
- Integration to mobilise student leadership at the heart of the project
- Action with proposed challenges - adapted to students' lifestyles, quantified in terms of carbon savings - proposed on a collaborative online platform;
- Communication to mobilise a large student community on each campus.
This innovative programme is supported by the ARES SD Commission and the King Baudouin Foundation. It is also a winner of the UN Campus 2030 competition (680 projects on the starting line) and will be replicated in Belgian and foreign higher education institutions.
