NBS Engrossed Project
The NBS Engrossed project, part of the Program for focuses on developing sustainable, nature-based solutions (NBS) for hazard mitigation in the Caribbean. With the growing threat of climate change and the increasing frequency and intensity of coastal hazards, the project emphasizes the need for resilient engineering that both protects coastal infrastructure and supports local ecosystems and communities.
By integrating physical and numerical modelling with field studies across diverse Caribbean coastal sites, the research seeks to understand how various nature-based solutions influence the surrounding environment. The project aims to create adaptable design specifications that maintain environmental integrity while delivering long-term, climate-resilient benefits—especially vital for tourism-dependent Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
NVS Engrossed also highlights the importance of stakeholder engagement. The project team will gather input from local partners and decision-makers to ensure recommendations are practical, inclusive, and scalable. By combining technical expertise with regional insight, this interdisciplinary initiative supports evidence-based planning and design, contributing to sustainable coastal development across the region. Funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and administered by Future Earth, PEGASuS supports innovative approaches to pressing sustainability challenges.
