About

Kabale University (KAB) was established in 2002 as a community‑driven institution and became a public university in 2015. With a student body of approximately 5,450–6,661 and over 400 staff, it delivers a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs through faculties in Science; Agriculture & Environmental Sciences; Engineering, Technology, Applied Design & Fine Art; Education; Computing & Information Sciences; Economics & Management; Arts & Social Sciences; and a School of Medicine, among others. Its core mission is to excel in teaching, learning, research, innovation, and community engagement, guided by values of excellence, integrity, diversity, lifelong learning, and academic freedom. Kabale University emphasizes research in basic and applied sciences, social sciences, environmental and development studies, technology, and institutional governance. Its well‑equipped campus on Kikungiri Hill offers modern laboratories, lecture halls, libraries, and student facilities - supporting a vibrant academic environment and contributing to regional development and cross‑border academic collaboration in the Great Lakes region.

Sustainability at KAB

KAB is committed to sustainable development through education, research, and community engagement. Its programs in agriculture, environment and natural‑resources, environmental science, land‑use management and related fields help train future leaders in resource stewardship and environmental sustainability. Through its Directorate of Research and Grants and partnerships with external institutions, the university fosters applied research that addresses land‑use, water‑resources, environmental management, and sustainable agriculture, supporting regional resilience and ecological protection. In campus culture and through outreach, KAB emphasizes environmentally conscious practice, community‑oriented solutions, and socially inclusive development, aligning closely with the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially Quality Education (SDG 4), Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Life on Land (SDG 15).
