Higher Seminar: Caring for a Glacier at University of Gothenburg
The Department of Conservation at the University of Gothenburg is pleased to welcome Dr. Marzia Varutti from the University of Geneva for a thought-provoking seminar on the theme of care. Having been a visiting researcher at the Centre for Critical Heritage Studies (CCHS) in Gothenburg in autumn 2024, Dr. Varutti is going to explore a profound and speculative question: what does it mean to care for a glacier?
This seminar approaches the concept of care through an affective lens, examining how emotional connections shape our responses to environmental loss. Dr. Varutti will discuss the phenomenon of ecological grief and the mourning rituals that accompany the disappearance of glaciers.
