The present document will outline the terms of access and use of the portal on Higher Education and Research for Sustainable Development (hereafter referred to as “the HESD portal”). The IAU maintains the HESD Portal at www.iau-hesd.net (hereafter referred to as “the portal” or "the website"). The following terms and conditions govern the use of the HESD portal, and any content made available to, from or through the portal.

The HESD portal allows the user to access a variety of information on the promotion of higher education for sustainable development, including the actions undertaken by the institutions of higher education worldwide. By using the HESD portal, the User accepts and respects the terms and conditions as laid down in this document.

Definitions

User: The user is any person who uses the website or any of the services offered on the HESD portal.
User content: The term "User content" refers to data transmitted by the user in the various sections of the website.

Amendment of the Terms and Conditions of Use

The Terms and Conditions of Use are subject to amendment at IAU’s sole discretion at any given time. No prior notice is required to be given. The IAU therefore recommends that the User regularly consults the latest version of the Terms and Conditions of Use, available on the site https://iau-hesd.net/terms-and-conditions-use .

Disclaimer of Reliability

While every effort is made to ensure the HESD portal operates reliably, the IAU will not make any warranties regarding the condition or functionality of the portal, its suitability for use, or that the service it provides will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Disclaimer of Damages

By using the HESD portal, the User assumes all risks associated with its use, including any risk to their computer, software or data being damaged by any virus, software, or any other file which might be transmitted or activated via this website. The IAU bears no responsibility, and shall not be held liable, for any direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages, including, without limitation, lost revenues or lost profits, resulting from the use or misuse of the HESD portal or the information contained on the HESD portal.

Disclaimer of Liability

The HESD portal contains information, documents and materials from various sources of information. While the IAU does not vouch for the accuracy or completeness and neither the reliability of this information, every effort has been made to ensure that the entries are as comprehensive as possible and that the information is accurate. The IAU shall not be held liable for any possible mistakes.

Access to the service

The access to the HESD portal is available free of charge to any user. The IAU reserves the right to deny access, at its sole discretion and without notice, to all or part of the HESD portal and/or to one or more users.

Content of the HESD portal

This global portal presents IAU’s strategy to support sustainable development in higher education.
This global portal is part of activities for the IAU strategic priority on sustainable development. The portal contains:

• information on IAU’s HESD strategy
• reports on all IAU activities in the field
• resources on sustainable development and the SDGs in general and specifically on the role of Higher Education
• maps initiatives implemented by higher education institutions and organizations for sustainability and the SDGs.

Intellectual property

The use of the acronym, the logo and/or the domain name of the HESD portal must be expressly authorized by the IAU. This authorization must be requested in advance, in writing, and must be implemented and executed in accordance with the terms and conditions specified in that authorization agreement, including the visual, duration and scope. The use of the acronym, logo and/or the domain name of the HESD portal without prior approval is strictly prohibited. See also here for terms and conditions of IAU logo use.

Links to other websites

The HESD portal offers, for the purpose of convenience, a series of hyperlinks to third-party websites published and/or managed by external organisations. Such hyperlinks are provided in good faith and the IAU has no control over these external websites, nor does IAU endorse these websites. The IAU is not responsible for the content or privacy practices of the third-party resources. Use of any such links will not render the IAU liable to Users or any other person for loss of any kind.

The IAU is committed to the protection of the privacy of Users. The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect in Europe on 25 May 2018. The GDPR provides individuals with opportunities to control how personal information is being used and sets obligations for the organisation receiving the personal information.
The HESD portal provides data about research for sustainable development from Higher Education Institutions, UNESCO, UN, foundations focused on sustainable development, and other actors in the field. It is used for the common good and not for commercial purposes. 
The HESD portal does not collect nor processes any personal or personally identifiable information. 
IAU uses the data to connect stakeholders working in and on higher education around the world and to create the kind of synergies that are conducive to advance higher education partnership around the world by sharing information on higher education. Cookie Policy

When Users visit the HESD portal, the website uses cookies to log non-personally identifiable information including aggregating user data and browser type. Cookies will be deleted from Users’ computers when they close their browsers. The HESD portal uses the service 'Axeptio' for selecting cookie preferences of users. Axeptio's policy can be found here. If Users do not wish to receive cookies or wish their browser to notify them when they receive cookies, they may use the option on their web browser to disable cookies. Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of the website.

The IAU uses this data through Google Analytics to monitor and analyze patterns of usage and actual needs of Users in order to improve the HESD Portal. Unacceptable Use

Users must not use any part of the HESD portal for any purpose which is illegal, immoral, offensive to others or in breach of others' rights, or submit any content of that nature. This includes, but is not limited to, any purpose which amounts to:

  • discrimination on the grounds of race, gender, religion, age or any other personal characteristic;
  • harassment;
  • foul language;
  • incitement of hatred;
  • sexually explicit;
  • abuse;
  • defamation; or
  • a breach of copyright or other rights.

The IAU will remove any content or communication of this kind without prior notice.

Termination or suspension of service

The IAU may suspend or terminate access to the HESD Portal, with or without cause, at any time without prior notice, with the exception for partners where the ongoing agreements will be followed.
