Innovating for SDG 13: Climate-Friendly Asphalt from Roskilde University
At Roskilde University, sustainability research is at the forefront of their mission, as highlighted by the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI). Under the leadership of Professor Jeppe Dyre from the Department of Science and Environment, RUC has spearheaded two major international projects (COOEE and ROSE) that developed climate-friendly asphalt. This innovative material reduces rolling resistance, lowers traffic noise, cuts fuel consumption, and significantly decreases CO₂ emissions—delivering both environmental and economic benefits. Now being tested across Denmark, the project reflects RUC’s commitment to advancing SDG 13: Climate Action. With the world’s only laboratory dedicated to studying road rolling resistance, Roskilde University continues to shape global solutions for sustainable transport.
