TWIN2SUSTAIN at University of Cyprus

TWIN2SUSTAIN is a three-year initiative led by the University of Cyprus to strengthen research and innovation on climate change and sustainable development in the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East, and North Africa (EMMENA) region. Building on UCY’s expertise in water, renewable energy, and oceanography, the project focuses on integrating socioeconomic dimensions of sustainability. In partnership with UNU-MERIT and UAntwerp, TWIN2SUSTAIN fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, enhances international visibility, and advances research in areas such as gender equality, science diplomacy, and economic development, contributing to global solutions for the climate crisis and sustainable development.

The next stakeholder meeting will take place in Nicosia, 15–17 October 2025, hosted by the University of Cyprus with the Municipality of Strovolos and the Cyprus Institute. Bringing together academics, policymakers, municipalities, and civil society from Cyprus and Europe, the three-day programme will explore citizen engagement, urban sustainability, and municipal governance, while advancing research collaboration in areas such as innovation law, gender equality, economic development, and science diplomacy. A key milestone of the Horizon Europe-funded project, the meeting will also mark the launch of the Sustainable Development Hub in Cyprus, envisioned as a hybrid space for co-creation, citizen science, and European partnerships driving sustainable futures.
