University of Bergen to continue as UN SDG 14 Hub until 2030
The University of Bergen (UiB) has been reappointed by the United Nations as the global academic hub for Sustainable Development Goal 14 – Life Below Water through to 2030. The renewed mandate, awarded under the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) initiative, recognises UiB's international leadership in ocean research, education and collaboration.
Since first receiving the designation in 2018, UiB has played a leading role in advancing knowledge and partnerships that support sustainable ocean management. The extension aligns with the final years of the UN 2030 Agenda and the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, reinforcing the university's commitment to addressing global ocean challenges through research, education and international cooperation.
The renewed recognition also highlights UiB's expanding portfolio of Ocean Decade Actions and its continued work with partners worldwide to promote healthy oceans as a foundation for sustainable development.
