ZEPHATTAN Project (Wind Energy) at University of Grand-Bassam

The ZEPHATTAN Project (also known as "Energy in a Box") is a wind energy initiative focused on implementing wind turbines in remote areas of Côte d'Ivoire that are not connected to the national grid. The project aims to promote renewable energy solutions and enhance local expertise in wind turbine technology.

From May 20 to May 24, 2024, a practical workshop on wind turbine design and development took place, involving six Ivorian universities, including the International University of Grand-Bassam (IUGB). The workshop provided hands-on training in designing, developing, and installing wind turbine components such as rotors, stators, blades, electrical boxes, and conversion systems.

The IUGB delegation, consisting of four students from the MET department and supervised by Dr. SINDE Seydou, actively participated and contributed to the project's success. The workshop combined theoretical lessons with practical activities, culminating in the testing of the wind turbines developed by participants. The initiative emphasized sustainability and energy autonomy, aiming to inspire future installations, including potential wind turbines on the IUGB campus.

This initiative was organized by KOC Bridges to Peace, AEGIS, and RIDDEF, in collaboration with the technology laboratory of Félix Houphouët-Boigny University, with support and funding from Innovate UK and the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). The project underscores the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and rural communities to advance renewable energy adoption.
