New UC Research for Development Network

The Research for Development Network (UC4RD) at the University of Canberra is a newly launched (Sept 2024) cross-faculty initiative to address global issues such as climate change adaptation, food security, international development, and inequality. The network will connect researchers from disciplines like economics, gender studies, education, arts, policy, water management, and more.

The academics to be part of UC4RD are experts in sustainable development with specializations in the Asia and Oceania regions. Their portfolio of projects spans over twenty countries in the last decade and was funded by prominent organisations like the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and CGIAR, a global research partnership focused on food security.

Research already being conducted by UC4RD

Dr Ann Hill of the Centre for Sustainable Communities has done research projects on growing community food economies; the intersection between environment, water, and climate change across the Mekong River region (East Asia & Southeast Asia); and research on smallholder farmers in Vietnam for policy design and skill development.

Dr Jane Alver of the Centre for Environmental Governance is conducting a project on reframing the response to climate change in the Pacific Islands to be more inclusive.

Other CSC researchers are engaged in projects that aim to improve local livelihoods through a community-led approach in Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Cambodia, and Timor Leste.
