SDGs Advocacy Club Established at HU

On June 15, 2024, Hawassa University (HU) students formally launched the SDGs Advocacy Club with the vision of creating a foundation for a future Centre for Food Security and Climate Change (CFSCC), ensuring the continuity of the CLIFOOD project’s outcomes. The club was welcomed by Prof. Tesfaye Abebe, who emphasized the importance of empowering young generations to carry forward efforts in food security and climate resilience, and Dr. Sintayehu Yigrem, who underlined the club’s inclusive nature, inviting participation from all academic disciplines.

Guided by bylaws presented by Dr. Hirut Getachew, the club’s mission is to raise awareness about the SDGs, engage in environmental protection through tree planting, waste management, and sustainable resource use, and foster a culture of environmentally conscious students by integrating SDG principles into both teaching and practice. At its founding, 122 students from six campuses and 5 faculty members registered, marking the start of an active community committed to sustainability and social impact.
