Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development, GMV

Presentation

Located in Göteborg, Sweden, the Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development, GMV is a platform for sustainable development and environmental research projects that promotes research and education for sustainable development.

Objectives

The GMV Centre for Environment and Sustainability creates and encourages research projects and multidisciplinary initiatives. Co-operation with the business community in western Sweden as well as the provision of information and education to the general public are part of GMV's brief.

Main Activities

Multidisciplinary approach

Natural scientists and social scientists, economists and engineers all have their role to play as society seeks to find sustainable solutions to such complex problems. Traditionally, however, it has been difficult to put interdisciplinary ideas into practice.

Research platform and scientific network

GMV has succeeded in establishing a platform for interdisciplinary research projects and researchers at Chalmers University of Technology and University of Gothenburg. The GMV research network is comprising about 500 members from all faculties at both universities and about 500 representatives from industry, local authorities and other environmental organisations.

Innovative Aspects

GMV involves all faculties and departments at both universities as it is now widely realized that co-operation between different research areas is needed for universities seeking to contribute to sustainable development.
