Olive Planting

As part of its Green Campus Strategy under the Strategic Plan 2023–2038, the University of Duhok (UoD) marked a key milestone on December 5, 2024, by planting 3,000 olive trees on campus, bringing the total seedlings planted in 2024 to over 8,500. Supported by Shinal Company and attended by university leadership, faculty, and students, the initiative advances sustainable agriculture, food security, and environmental stewardship, while serving as a living laboratory for research and hands-on learning.

Olive trees were chosen for their resilience, carbon‑sequestering ability, and cultural and nutritional value. The project reflects UoD’s commitment to biodiversity, eco-friendly campus development, student engagement, and global sustainability goals, providing practical learning opportunities in environmental sciences, agriculture, and urban planning.
