New Green Initiatives to Promote Sustainability
The University of Jammu launched a series of green campus initiatives to strengthen its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Organized by the Green Campus Task Force (GCTF) and the Department of Environmental Sciences, the event featured the inauguration of electric vehicles, a stag sculpture made from waste materials, and vertical gardens built using recycled plastic bottles. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai emphasized that these efforts reduce the university’s carbon footprint and serve as learning tools for students.
Supported by various industry partners, the initiative aligns with national and global sustainability goals. The program also highlighted the release of the Green Task Report, Green Initiative Report, and a Pictorial Guide to the Waterbirds of Gharana Wetland, showcasing the university’s broader focus on biodiversity, renewable energy, and waste management. These efforts collectively advance SDG 7 (Clean Energy), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
