Prison Outreach Programme at University of Saint Joseph (Macau)
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) make a meaningful impact in the community through its Prison Outreach Programme, an initiative that underscores the university’s commitment to social sustainability and inclusive education.
Background
The Prison Outreach Programme offers incarcerated individuals the opportunity to further their education and improve employment opportunities post-release. It aims to educate and inspire incarcerated individuals to achieve their academic and professional goals, prepare them for future social reintegration, and a better transition into communities. The programme brings access to University courses and offers a combination of soft and hard skills that will empower incarcerated individuals with the knowledge and competencies needed for successful reintegration.
Progamme Structure
The Prison Outreach programme offers courses drawn from the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), and includes three main stages:
Stage 1 – USJ provides modules for incarcerated students within the correctional facility.
Stage 2 – Modules are offered in the USJ campus for recently released individuals.
Stage 3 – Students may apply to continue their studies in order to receive a degree in social work.
