IESALC Blue Economy Pilot Project

The Blue Economy Pilot Project, led by the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC) in partnership with the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), and Camões I.P., is a multi-country initiative implemented in 2026 and funded by the Government of Portugal.

The project brings together universities, public institutions, and civil society organizations across Angola, Chile, Jamaica, and Portugal to strengthen knowledge, capacity building, and resilience in coastal communities. It offers research activities, policy analysis, community engagement, and the co-development of practical toolkits, alongside workshops and collaborative learning opportunities designed to translate knowledge into action.

By promoting sustainable ocean resource management and international cooperation, the initiative contributes directly to the several SDGs, particularly SDG 14 (Life Below Water), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
