About
Over 80 ministers and vice ministers and 2,800 education and environment stakeholders committed to taking concrete steps to transform learning for the survival of our planet by adopting the Berlin Declaration on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) at the end of a three-day virtual World Conference in May 2021. The Berlin Declaration on Education for Sustainable Development has been adopted by the participants at the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development, in order to make ESD a foundational principle of education at all levels. Through Education for Sustainable Development, UNESCO aims to equip learners with the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that are needed to contribute to sustainable development and Agenda 2030. The new framework ESD for 2030 (2020-2030) and its Roadmap for Implementation will focus on ESD as a key instrument for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The participants of the global Conference strongly support the idea that integrating ESD into all levels of education and training from early childhood to tertiary and adult education is the solution to address the dramatic interrelated challenges the world is facing, and are confident that education is a powerful enabler of positive change of mindsets and worldviews.
