Back on Track: A Course for Embedding SD in HE Curricula

York University, in partnership with Centre International de Formation des Autorités et Leaders (CIFAL York) and the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), present the Back on Track course for directors, teaching, staff, and actors in secondary and higher education to adopt strategies for practical curriculum impelementation of sustainable development (SD).

The course focuses on moving beyond SDG awareness toward practical curriculum design by teaching participants how to embed sustainability into learning outcomes, assessments, and community-engaged learning across disciplines. Participants will gain practical tools and strategies to align existing course content with the SDGs, develop sustainability-focused learning outcomes, and apply evaluation frameworks and curriculum-mapping tools. Through analysing case studies and cross-disciplinary discussions, participants will begin designing or revising their own SDG-aligned course materials. Following their participation in the course, participants will receive ready-to-use teaching resources and a certificate demonstrating their capacity to integrate sustainability into higher education teaching

The course takes place online and stretches over two days on the following dates: March 25 & April 9, 2026.
