A Canada-Malaysia Collaboration Course on Sustainability Shortlisted for QS Reimagine Education Award
The course ''Chemical Dynamics'', created by York University Chemistry professor Hovig Kouyoumdjian and Ooi Der Jiun from the MAHSA University in Malaysia, has been shortlisted to the QS Reimagine Education Awards 2025 in the category Sustainability Education Literacy.
Deciding on a common topic of interest, the two university professors invited students from both universities to take part in the course. By promoting collaboration, the course offered students an opportunity to exchange views and knowledge on sustainability practices related to petroleum and edible oils. Students who participated in the course experienced that they gained new perspectives and insights on sustainability practices, while valuing the opportunity to collaborate internationally.
This course was part of a York University initiative to promote global collaboration and cross-university learning, Globally Networked Learning (GNL). GNL connects students and faculty from different geographical locations around the world through teaching and learning. Through collaborative courses, students from different universities participate in knowledge exchange, competency development, and gain international experience.
