Fair work statements and regulations at universities for SDG 8
In the past years, several universities have introduced policies such as fair work statements and regulations to protect workers' rights and ensure fair work practices are in place. In particular, in the UK/Scotland following government guidelines.
These include but are not limited to: the payment of at least the living wage, providing appropriate channels for effective workers’ voice/unions, investment in workforce development, taking action to tackle the gender pay gap, and creating a more diverse and inclusive workplace, offering flexible and family friendly working practices for all workers from day one of employment.
Some examples include:
- The University of Glasgow: Fair Work Statement
- The University of Edinburgh: Fair Work Statement
- The University of Strathclyde: Report of the Fair Work Project
