International Week at Lille - Universities as Global Actors for Peace: Responsibility, Engagement and Solidarity

From 23 to 27 March 2026, the Université Catholique de Lille organised an International Week on the theme “Universities as Global Actors for Peace: Responsibility, Engagement and Solidarity.'' The event brought together 38 participants from 14 countries across the world to explore the role of higher education in fostering peace and global cooperation. Through workshops, site visits, and dialogue, the event highlighted key university initiatives in sustainability, student engagement, and international solidarity, reinforcing the importance of intercultural exchange and collaborative action.

This initiative reflects the university’s mission of education, research, and service to society, grounded in values of humanism, ethics, openness, and a commitment to the common good. By positioning universities as drivers of dialogue and social transformation, the event contributes directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). It demonstrates how higher education institutions can act as catalysts for sustainable peace by equipping responsible global citizens and fostering inclusive, transdisciplinary collaboration.
