Mainstreaming Gender - Key outcomes of the World Water Day Webinar
The United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), in collaboration with international partners, co-organized an online seminar on 18 March 2026 to mark World Water Day under the theme “Water and Gender.”
The event brought together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to explore how gender perspectives can be effectively integrated into water and sanitation governance. Its purpose was to promote rights-based, inclusive approaches that address inequalities in access, decision-making, and resource management. Key outcomes included strengthened awareness of gender disparities in water systems and the identification of policy-relevant strategies for more equitable governance. The seminar contributes directly to the advancement of SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality).
