One Student One Laptop Initiative
The University of Ghana began the One Student One Laptop (1S1L) Initiative in 2021 under Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo. So far, around 500 students have been able to receive a laptop for free for educational purposes. The initiative aims to close the gap with digital literacy and equitable access to education. The university receives laptops through donations from local partners, which to date number 855 laptops.
The 1S1L initiative has three components: the distribution of free laptops to students in need, the sale of laptops to students at discounted prices, and the set-up of an assembly plant to manufacture laptops. The third is still to be implemented because of due diligence, and an agreement is to be made soon with a firm.
