Policy Paper: SDG Implementation in Higher Education across the MENA Region

This policy paper explores the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in higher education institutions across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, which includes 19 countries from Algeria to Yemen.

Developed in collaboration with Prince Sultan University’s Center for Sustainability and Climate (the first sustainability and climate think tank in Saudi Arabia), Times Higher Education, and UNESCO, the paper examines how universities are aligning curricula, research, and institutional strategies with the global sustainability agenda.

The analysis highlights both progress and persistent challenges, including disparities in implementation across countries and institutions. It calls for strengthened policy frameworks and greater collaboration to support higher education’s role in advancing the SDGs in the region.
