Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS)

Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) is a program implemented by the Government of Japan for the purpose of promoting international joint research to address global issues and lead to outcomes of practical benefits to both local and global society based on the needs of developing countries.

SATREPS focuses on the areas of environment/energy issues, bio-resources, disaster prevention and mitigation, and infectious diseases control. SATREPS has been conducting projects around the world that are closely related to the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations. SATREPS aims to contribute to the achievement of SDGs.

The research project administered by Professor Kazuo Watanabe at the University of Tsukuba, on the stability of world food supplies through the means of Japanese technology and Mexican resources, has been adopted as SATREPS program.
