Sophia University -Symposium on AI and Higher Education

Sophia University’s symposium, “The Role of Higher Education and Deeper Learning,” takes place on 9 July, from 4:30–6:30 pm Tokyo time / UTC+9, in a hybrid format. The event explores how universities should respond to the rapid development of artificial intelligence and generative AI, with a focus on deeper learning, creative thinking, and critical thinking in higher education. Drawing on OECD work on creative and critical thinking in higher education and the OECD Digital Education Outlook 2026, the symposium encourages reflection on how universities can use AI effectively while preserving the broader educational mission of developing thoughtful, adaptable, and socially responsible learner
