UNU-IAS SDG-UP 2026 Symposium
On March 13, the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) organised a symposium which highlighted how Japanese universities are advancing the Sustainable Development Goals through integrated approaches across education, research, and campus initiatives. Bringing together university leaders, policymakers, students, and government representatives, the event showcased activities from the SDG–Universities Platform (SDG-UP), including working groups on areas such as sustainable campuses, SDG curricula, and university management, as well as student-led sustainability projects and initiatives.
Through the symposium, UNU-IAS contributed strategically to advancing the SDGs by supporting joint research, capacity building, and education initiatives, while positioning universities as key actors in sustainability transitions. The symposium also underscored UNU-IAS’s role in fostering partnerships, amplifying student engagement, and advancing higher education’s contribution to sustainable development both nationally and globally.
