NLU joins Global Environmental Measurement and Monitoring (GEMM)
National Law University Delhi (NLU), in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), has joined the Global Environmental Measurement and Monitoring (GEMM) Initiative - a global partnership led by Optica and the American Geophysical Union (AGU). This marks the establishment of GEMM Delhi, the first multidisciplinary GEMM centre integrating law and science to develop community-based solutions for environmental and climate challenges.
Through this collaboration, NLU Delhi contributes legal expertise while IIT Delhi provides scientific and technological input, aiming to bridge the gap between research and policy implementation. GEMM Delhi will foster international cooperation, data-driven policymaking, and sustainable practices for environmental protection.
Faculty members from both institutions highlighted the partnership as a step toward interdisciplinary innovation, promoting climate justice, environmental monitoring, and evidence-based law and policy. The initiative originated from discussions at the 2022 GEMM Asia Summit in Singapore and strengthens India’s role in global sustainability and climate governance.
