UNESCO Women4EthicalAI Network

UNESCO's Women4EthicalAI Network is a multi-stakeholder collaborative platform and network aimed at advancing gender equality in the AI agenda.

The network was implemented due to the many challenges associated with AI. While AI brings enormous potential for societal advancement, it also risks increasing inequalities, gender discrimination and the underrepresentation of women in STEM and Tech fields. UNESCO further motivates the need for the network by stating ''Gender imbalances in AI may lead to increase or create discriminations and biases, thus curbing AI's potential to offer solutions to key societal challenges at the same time as it harms women, both at present and in the future.''

On this background, Women4EthicalAI works for these core objectives:

  • Promote gender-responsive AI governance
  • Support gender-responsive policy and funding frameworks
  • Advance women’s participation, leadership and inclusion in AI, and
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and good practices

Departing from these objectives, the Women4EthicalAI addresses gender gaps and gender-related issues in supporting the implementing the 2021 UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence.
