The General History of Africa as a catalyst for Agenda 2063 and Agenda 2030
This online working session is a follow-up to the International Forum of UNESCO Chairs and Partners and builds on various past sessions on decolonizing education of Africa's history, research partnerships for new historical knowledge of Africa, and more. The session will focus on the three interconnected components of the GHA Flagship Programme, with the discussion for each component guided by two key questions:
Component 1. Transforming education through the teaching and learning of the GHA
• How does your work relate to the decolonial transformative vision of education, as embodied in the UNESCO GHA education resource pack, and how do you see your work contributing to the mainstreaming of the GHA into education systems in Africa and beyond the region?
• What do you identify as the most critical factors or conditions that would empower and enhance your efforts to make meaningful contributions to strengthening the teaching and learning of the GHA?
Component 2. Strengthening knowledge production on Africa and its diaspora history
• How does your work contribute to advancing knowledge on the history of Africa and its diasporas, within the context of the notion of 'Global Africa’?
• What opportunities can you identify to promote collaboration with UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks on the GHA?
Component 3. Disseminating GHA narratives through outreach and a lifelong learning approach
• How can your work leverage multimedia, digital platforms, culture, the arts and sports to engage a broader intergenerational audience about the relevance of the GHA to contemporary social realities?
• How can your work promote advocacy for the GHA and collaborate with local communities, elders, youth, cultural institutions, and media, etc. to develop programmes and initiatives for disseminating knowledge from this body of work
It aims to foster collective reflection on the opportunities and challenges for further producing knowledge on the history of Africa, inspired by the notion of Global Africa, and mainstreaming the General History of Africa (GHA) into education systems; identify concrete and relevant actions through which UNESCO Chairs and partners can support the implementation of the programme; and explore possibilities for collaboration at the regional and international level.
