The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK), established in 2009, delivers a North‑American‑style higher‑education model enriched by regional cultural values. Its mission is to provide transformational, student‑centered education that bridges academia and industry, fostering research, innovation, and community outreach. With about 1,500 students enrolled and a diverse international academic community, AURAK offers a broad spectrum of academic programs across its three schools - Arts & Sciences; Business; and Engineering & Computing - at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The university’s research strengths lie in advanced technology and artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, and innovation through specialized centers such as the Advanced Technology & AI Center and the RAK Research & Innovation Centre. Situated on a modern 1.3‑million‑square‑foot campus equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, residence halls, sports and recreation facilities, AURAK combines high-quality education with global partnerships and practical, career‑oriented training for future leaders and professionals.
Sustainability at AURAK
AURAK is deeply committed to sustainability across research, education, campus operations, and community engagement. Its dedicated Office of Research and Sustainability drives a comprehensive five‑year Sustainability Action Plan, promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, waste reduction and recycling, green building standards, biodiversity on campus, and sustainable materials use, all aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (especially SDG 13 on Climate Action, SDG 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 7 on Affordable Clean Energy). Sustainability literacy is embedded in teaching and learning, and students are encouraged to engage in sustainability‑oriented research, awareness campaigns, and community outreach. Through these efforts, AURAK fosters a campus culture and institutional mission that prioritise environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and long‑term ecological wellbeing.
