About
Magtymguly Turkmen State University was founded in 1931 and at present, over 7325 students study in Turkmen State University. There are 12 faculties (Mathematics, Information Technology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Turkmen Language and Literature, English Language and Literature, Roman-German and Oriental Languages, History, Law, Professional Development), 37 departments, where students are trained in 14 fields of study and 33 different specialties, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in several courses.
Sustainable Development
On the occasion of the World Cities Day (31 October) the UNDP in Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan announced a student research competition entitled "Progressive and modern method of using recycled materials in everyday life" at the university. The submitted research works demonstrated creative and innovative approaches to the production of goods from recycled materials (plastic, glass, paper, wood, etc.) with ideas on its application in everyday life.
Beyond the competition, on April 15, 2021, the second plenary session “Significance of ecology in trade-economic cooperation” of the International Conference “Global Cooperation of Independent, Neutral Turkmenistan for the sake of Peace and Trust” was held at the university. The Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Programme Office in Turkmenistan Natia Natsvlishvili moderated the session.
Further, the university, the ministry of foreign affairs, and UNESCO signed agreements establishing two UNESCO chairs: the UNESCO Chair Cultural heritage: from the past to the future and the UNESCO Chair Environmental Education for Sustainable Development. These two bodies are aimed at expanding the multilateral cooperation of Turkmen universities in science and education.
