About

Mingachevir State University (MSU) was founded in 1991 and has operated under the name of the Mingachevir branch of Azerbaijan Industrial University, Mingachevir Energy Institute and Mingachevir Polytechnic Institute at different times. In the academic year of 2021/2022, personnel training was carried out at the University according to the 24 specializations(majors) (Bachelor’s degree) and 14 specialties (master’s degree) by covering economics, engineering and pedagogical profiles. There are 3 faculties and 10 departments and more than 3000 students have studied at the University. and more than 300 professor teacher staff.

The complex actions that are carried out at MSU are primarily measured to achieve the main strategic goals – to become a University of a new era, contribute to regional development and achieve the goal of becoming a capital-level higher education institution. At this time, development trends observed in the national higher education, new challenges based on changes in the international higher education space, as well as the current situation and potential opportunities of the University are taken into account. Particular attention is paid to improving the content of scientific research, increasing the use of modern methods in this area and building scientific activity on a result-oriented approach. 

In order to benefit from the experience and potential of advanced universities, mutually beneficial cooperation has been established among Baku State University (BSU), Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU), Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASSU), Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University (ADPU) and Lankaran State University (LDU). 

Sustainability at Mingachevir State University

Mingachevir State University demonstrates a clear and growing commitment to sustainability, which is reflected across its teaching, research, campus culture, and community engagement. It aligns its strategy with the UN SDGs, prioritizing Quality Education (SDG 4), and integrating Education for Sustainable Development into curricula. Research at MDU embraces cross-disciplinary sustainability themes, while its “Green Campus” initiative fosters environmental awareness, biodiversity protection, renewable energy, and carbon emissions reduction. Students and faculty collaborate in decision-making and public outreach, and through international partnerships and knowledge exchange, the university reinforces its direction toward becoming a socially and ecologically responsible “New Age University.”
