Mahidol University Advances Sustainability at SDGs Showcase 2024

On June 25, 2024, Mahidol University hosted the SDGs Showcase 2024 at Prince Mahidol Hall, Salaya, celebrating research and innovation that contribute to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event highlighted the university’s commitment to sustainability through awards and scholarships recognizing impactful projects. 

 

Innovation for Campus Sustainability 2024 Award

  • First Place: The BrainTeazer Team (Biomedical Engineering) developed an accessible brain-training device for cognitive rehabilitation, benefiting individuals with neurodegenerative conditions.

Outstanding Thesis Awards (Fiscal Year 2024)

  • Dr. Narongsak Sukma – Developed a community-driven water supply framework, promoting clean water access in rural areas.

  • Ms. Aakriti Deuja – Analyzed health and economic impacts of fine particulate matter from agricultural waste in Thailand, offering policy insights.

  • Ms. Kawinthip Wichatham – Identified bacteria capable of breaking down plastic waste, advancing sustainable waste management.

  • Ms. Myat Thiri San – Optimized carbon nanotube production for various industrial applications.

Scholarships for SDG-Focused Research

  • 150,000 Baht Scholarship: Mrs. Maywalin Jumsai Na Ayudhya – Studied air pollution’s health impacts, providing data-driven policy recommendations.
  • 100,000 Baht Scholarship: Ms. Nuttawan Arpasopana – Developed a bio-based material for dialysis treatment, reducing medical waste.

Mahidol SDGs Impact Challenge 2024

  • Klong Klean Team – Designed a filtration system for cleaner urban waterways.

  • Edible Spoon Team – Created biodegradable spoons to reduce plastic waste.

  • Carbon Polymerizing System Team – Developed a method to repurpose carbon emissions into sustainable materials.
