MUBS Center for Equality & Sustainable Development

The Modern University for Business and Science (MUBS) launched its Center for Equality and Sustainable Development (ESD) in October 2020, originally established as the Equality & Sustainability Center with the support and co-funding of the Free Erasmus+ Project. Since its inception, the Center has served as a platform for advancing sustainability, equity, and human rights in Lebanon and the wider region.

As of August 2024, the Center’s work is structured around five core thematic areas, each aligned with key UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • Gender Focus: Advocating for women’s rights in Lebanon and the region
  • EDUSPIRE: Promoting quality education and educational innovation
  • OmniHealth: Advancing health equity and access as a universal human right
  • Peace in Action: Strengthening democracy, peacebuilding, and justice
  • Gaia Hub: Addressing climate action and environmental sustainability

Led by Director Bianca Sallum, Instructor at MUBS’ School of Health Sciences, the Center benefits from the active support of MUBS leadership, including President and CEREC President Dr. Nael Alami, and Vice President for International Affairs Dr. Bassem Kaissi. Its work is also enriched by faculty involvement, student volunteers, and collaboration with other institutional bodies such as the Center for Excellence in Research, Education, and Cultural Studies (CEREC) and the Office of Student Success.

The ESD Center embodies MUBS’ firm commitment to the United Nations 2030 Agenda. By fostering inclusive, cross-sectoral engagement and aligning its initiatives with the SDGs, the Center aims to contribute meaningfully to reducing inequalities and promoting sustainable development at local, national, and regional levels.
