Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) Initiatives at Chandigarh University

Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) is a key pillar of Chandigarh University’s philosophy, reflecting its belief that education extends beyond classrooms to shaping responsible citizens and fostering social change. As an institution committed to sustainable development and community well-being, CU engages in a wide range of voluntary initiatives that balance institutional growth with societal welfare. Through active student participation, the university cultivates a culture of empathy, civic engagement, and environmental stewardship.

Project Jyot-e-Haryaval (Mission Green):
This flagship initiative aims to “heal the planet” by expanding the green cover of Punjab and promoting ecological balance. Every student contributes to the mission by participating in tree-planting activities that collectively make a significant environmental impact. The project operates without imposing any financial burden on the state and symbolizes CU’s dedication to restoring natural ecosystems and combating climate change.

Tree Plantation Drives:
Recognizing deforestation as a pressing global concern, Chandigarh University organizes regular tree plantation drives both on campus and in neighboring communities. Conducted independently or in collaboration with partner organizations, these drives encourage students and residents to take tangible steps toward a greener, cleaner environment.

No Crackers Campaign:
During festivals such as Diwali, CU volunteers promote eco-friendly celebrations by discouraging the use of firecrackers that contribute to air and noise pollution. The campaign emphasizes celebrating festivals as a time for togetherness, reflection, and harmony with nature, reinforcing values of sustainability and social awareness.

Cleanliness Drives at Kharar and Mohali:
Supporting the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, CU regularly conducts cleanliness drives in Kharar, Mohali, and surrounding areas. These efforts, led by students and staff, aim to foster civic pride, maintain hygienic surroundings, and uphold the ideals of a “Clean India.” The university also ensures that its own campus remains a model of cleanliness, health, and sustainability.

Together, these ISR initiatives embody Chandigarh University’s vision of higher education as a catalyst for positive social and environmental transformation.
