Memorandum of Understanding with AcegasApsAmga on Sustainable Management of Water resources
On 24 July 2024, the University of Padua(Unipd) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AcegasApsAmga S.p.A., a multi-utility company that serves north-eastern Italy. The MoU is for the management and monitoring of water resources, with a two-year validity.
The MoU is aligned with the University's Sustainability Commitments Charter, and is directly linked to Goal 6.4 of the UN 2030 Agenda.
The university commits to better manage water resources by defining protocols for saving, recovering, and reusing water in facilities and promoting agreements with the managing body to control consumption. Currently, the unviersity consumes 500 litres of water per minute, and they have set a traget to reduce their water consumption by 3% by 2027.
Inputs implemented already under the MoU include
- The supply of 74 upgraded meters to the University to allow for continuous monitoring of water consumption of the main water supplies registered under the University
- Providing access to the university to an online Consumption Portal, which allows the University to monitor the financial costs associated with water. This in turn allows for easier identification of abnormal water consumption, potential leaks, a better understanding of rate of consumption for certain equipment and facilities, and the design of effective interventions for sustainable water consumption.
