New Publication by the European Commission: Advancing sustainable development in Africa

The European Commission has published a report titled ''Advancing Sustainable Development in Africa'', which acts as guidance for policymakers, contribute to capacitybuidling, and strengthen institutions in areas related to Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI), and sustainability. Experiences of five African countries (Gambia, Mauritius, Namibia, Rawanda, and Seychelles) make up the report.

The report presents a methodology developed by the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) to use STI as key drivers for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals across Sub-Saharan Africa. It emphasizes a participatory, evidence-based approach tailored to local contexts, bringing together stakeholders to design policies that address specific national challenges while promoting economic growth, social wellbeing, and environmental sustainability.

Key findings from the report highlight the importance of country-specific, inclusive, and systems-based approaches to strengthen institutions and innovation ecosystems, ultimately supporting more sustainable and resilient development pathways across the region.
