In September 2016, Costa Rica became the first country to sign a National Pact for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), which implies a great responsibility. Likewise, the National Council of Rectors (CONARE) was the first to join this great challenge.

The Center for Research and Studies for Sustainable Development (CIEDES) is a multidisciplinary unit dedicated to research and study of the structure, processes and results of the interaction between societies and the environment, with the purpose of determine fair mechanisms that allow the integral development of the human being, promoting at the same time the recovery or conservation of ecosystems and natural geosystems, under a perspective of long-term coexistence. The general objective of CIEDES is to promote and develop interdisciplinary research and studies on socioeconomic and technological development processes and their interactions with the natural environment in order to search for feasible solutions to meet the needs of present generations without compromising the possibilities of future generations. to meet your own needs.
