SDSN Sustainable Development Report 2026

On 23 June 2026, the Sustainable Development Solutions Network published their Sustainable Development Report for 2026. The report tracks the progress of UN Member States on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and reports key takeaways for future improvement.

The report also emphasises the role of quality education as not only a development goal (SDG 4), but a precondition for ''peaceful, democratic and resilient societies capable of sustaining long-term sustainable development transformations'' (Part 1, p.3). This reinforces the importance of higher education institutions as agents of sustainable development, as, universities contribute to developing the competencies needed for democratic participation, social resilience, and sustainability transitions.
