Sustainability Transition - Goals, Challenges & Opportunities
On 29 February 2024, Ludovika University of Public Service hosted an extraordinary academic lecture as part of its MA in International Water Governance and Water Diplomacy. The keynote speaker was Csaba Kőrösi, former President of the UN General Assembly and Honorary Doctor of the university, who addressed the theme “Sustainability Transition – Goals, Challenges, Opportunities.” In his lecture, he emphasized the escalating global geopolitical crises and the urgent need for a transformative shift toward sustainability.
He highlighted the slow progress on the SDGs, especially water-related SDG 6, stressing that water security is a critical global issue. Linking water policy to climate resilience, he outlined key priorities - from early warning systems and global water indicators to new economic models and stronger cross-border cooperation. The lecture was followed by a panel discussion with students and faculty, reinforcing the essential role of future water governance professionals in tackling climate and water crises through international collaboration and responsible leadership. The event was organized by the Faculty of Water Sciences in partnership with the university’s Institute for Environmental Sustainability.
