Sustainable Fisheries Seminar at IUM
Namibia’s fisheries sector is confronting mounting pressures from overfishing, pollution, and climate change. In response, the International University of Management (IUM) organized a two-day Sustainable Fisheries Seminar in Walvis Bay (10–11 September 2025), uniting scientists, policymakers, industry leaders, and students to explore sustainable solutions for the country’s vital fisheries industry.
Officiated by Hon. Prof. David Namwandi, IUM’s Founder and Council Chair, the event emphasized responsible resource management and youth engagement. Coordinated by the IUM Coastal Campus and the Department of Sustainable Ocean and Aquaculture Management, the seminar - supported by the Global Youth Climate Action Fund and Walvis Bay Municipality - highlighted the urgent need to strengthen Namibia’s fisheries and aquaculture sectors to protect oceans, empower youth, and enhance food security.
