UNODC Workshop Empowers Youth to Tackle Corruption and Climate Change

On 29 - 30 September 2025, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in partnership with the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and Coordination of the Fight against Corruption (BiH APIK) and the University of Mostar (SUM), organized a two-day workshop in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, aimed at empowering youth to tackle corruption and climate change through education, dialogue, and innovation.

The workshop engaged students from diverse academic disciplines in exploring the complex links between corruption and environmental degradation, highlighting how corruption can weaken climate policies, obstruct sustainable development, and undermine trust in institutions. Through interactive discussions, creative group work, and experiential learning, participants analyzed the causes and impacts of climate change, identified local vulnerabilities, and developed strategies to promote transparency, integrity, and accountability within their communities.

By the end of the workshop, participants had gained hands-on experience with collaborative educational tools and expressed a strong commitment to share the knowledge and methodologies acquired with their peers and wider networks. The initiative, supported by UNODC’s Global Resource for Anti-Corruption Education and Youth Empowerment (GRACE), contributes to the implementation of the Anti-Corruption Strategy of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in line with the UN Convention against Corruption, and reinforces the vital role of youth as changemakers in building a fairer, more sustainable future.
