European Organisation for Sustainable Development (EOSD)
Duerkheimer Str. 24, 76187 Karlsruhe, Germany
Background
As per the Article 3(3) of the Treaty of European Union, sustainable development is an over-arching and long term goal of the European Union. And the EU Sustainable Development Strategy aims to:
“Identify and develop actions to enable the EU to achieve continuous improvement of quality of life both for current and for future generations, through the creation of sustainable communities able to manage and use resources efficiently and to tap the ecological and social innovation potential of the economy, ensuring prosperity, environmental protection and social cohesion.”
This was a landmark declaration as for the first time in the history of Europe all the three pillars of sustainability (environment, society and economy) were integrated in one framework. It demonstrated the commitment towards sustainable development by all member states of the European Union.
